Docxels
Scan · Write · Sign

Your whole document desk, in your pocket.

Docxels scans paper into clean PDFs, extracts text with OCR and edits Word documents. It works offline, so your documents stay with you.

Android only for now. Free to start.

Everything a document needs

One app instead of several. Scans, Word files and PDFs live in one library, so a scan can become a Word document in two taps.

Smart scanner

Finds the page edges, straightens the page and cleans the image. Scan one page or a whole stack, then reorder.

Word processor

Open, edit and save .docx with fonts, tables you can set up live and drag into place, lists, pictures, shapes, headers, page numbers and footnotes kept as notes. Sheets look like real paper, in A3, A4, A5, B3, B4, B5 and more, with zoom.

PDF export more soon

Export any document to PDF today. Merge, split, compress, annotate and protect are planned.

PDF and scan to Word

Turn PDFs and scans into editable A4 Word documents. PDFs with text keep their bold, italic, sizes, colours, tables, pictures, drawn lines and boxes, paragraph spacing and letterhead artwork; scans are read with on-device OCR.

Letterheads and signatures

Add a letterhead from a picture, PDF or Word file and the app picks out the artwork and leaves the letter text behind. Draw a signature or have it found inside a PDF or Word file, with the background removed. It lands on the signing line, in front of the text. Letterheads always fill the page, and pictures, signatures and shapes resize with width and height sliders or by dragging a handle. Keep letterheads and signatures in Settings and add them at will. Filling PDF forms is still planned.

Make it yours

Pick a theme colour: Docxels violet, Word blue, grey, black, green, teal, orange or rose.

Private and secure

No accounts, ads or analytics, encrypted storage, optional fingerprint or screen-lock, and hidden screen contents.

Private by design

Scanning, editing and text recognition run on your phone. The app uses the internet only when you tap Check for updates. No accounts, no ads, no analytics.

Questions

Short, honest answers.

Does Docxels upload my documents?

No. Scanning, cleaning, editing and text recognition all run on your phone, and the app uses the internet only when you ask it to check for updates.

Can I turn a scan into a Word file?

Yes. Docxels reads the page with on-device OCR and opens it as an editable document. OCR can make mistakes, so check important text.

Will my Word files look the same?

Docxels reads and writes standard .docx files. Simple documents carry across well; complex layouts such as text boxes or tracked changes are not fully supported yet. Footnotes are kept as a numbered list of notes at the end.

What if I lose my phone?

Pages are encrypted on the phone and you can lock the app with your fingerprint, face or screen lock. These protections help against someone reaching the stored files; they cannot protect a phone that is already unlocked.
